Interested in setting up a Valheim dedicated server? Valheim hit the ground running when it launched on Steam Early Access in early February. It's certainly one of the most exciting new survival games in years and gives you seemingly endless options. Whether you decide to concentrate on perfecting the fine details of your base or gearing up to progress into new areas, the Viking afterlife can be explored solo or with up to ten players.

Dedicated servers are one option if you choose the multiplayer route, but hosting the game locally on your PC works well, too. Each has its own pros and cons, so this is largely down to personal preference and how you want to play the game. A Valheim dedicated server, for example, will always be online so your friends can join whenever, but it's more complicated to get started. Whereas a locally-hosted game takes a couple of extra clicks to set up before logging in.

If you're unsure which option is best for you and your Viking clan, read on to discover everything you need to know about dedicated servers, as well as hosting a game locally, to ensure your Valheim multiplayer experience is nothing but smooth sailing.
